The Western District of Wisconsin is seeking applicants for one full-time position with the District Court:

 

Pro Se Law Clerk

The U.S. District Court is seeking a part-time pro se law clerk to perform a number of substantive legal tasks in chambers, including:

  • screening prisoner and non-prisoner complaints and petitions;
  • performing research to assist the court in preparing opinions;
  • drafting recommendations and orders;
  • reviewing pending litigation to ensure the proper progress of cases;
  • evaluating present procedures to find new innovations for increasing effectiveness in handling pro se cases.

The candidate must be a law school graduate with standing in the top quarter of the candidate's law school class.  In addition, the candidate must possess computer proficiency in Windows applications, word processing, Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis; the ability to analyze complex legal issues and understand a wide range of legal concepts as they relate to pro se litigation; the ability to write and perform legal research accurately and expeditiously; excellent interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills; and a positive attitude. Preferred qualifications include law review experience, previous state or federal clerkship, other post-law school experience, and a working knowledge of criminal and constitutional law.

IT Security Officer

The court is also seeking an IT Security Officer to serve the Bankruptcy and District Courts, as well as the Office of Probation and Parole.  The successful applicant may work in the federal courthouse in Madison or Eau Claire.  The district is looking for a self-starter who will improve its security posture and collaborate with regional and national stake holders.  Secondary responsibilities include assisting the network administrators by developing standards, recommending network infrastructure changes, and participating in the high-level and long-term design and analysis of the court’s network systems.  This position is open until filled, with preference given to applications received by February 28, 2020.
